Something's gone wrong. Maybe it was a little parasite, wiggling under your skin. Maybe something bit you that one night in the woods. Maybe someone decided they didn't like you and placed a curse on you, or maybe the local psychotic AI decided she liked you and filled you full of nanites. In any case, you're changing, body and soul. There's no way to stop it. No way to reverse it. And above all, it's the most painful thing you've ever experienced...

HOW IT WORKS:
- Tag the meme, leaving your character name, fandom, and any preferences in the subject line
- Other character tags you
- You tag back, and use the random number generator to select from the following options. Or don't, and do whatever strikes your fancy. If you roll something your character already is, either roll again, go for human, or pick something that otherwise suits your fancy.

1. Water-dwelling. You're growing gills, or your skin is turning translucent, or you're sprouting fins, or maybe you're outright turning into some form of sea life. It doesn't matter what you're turning into – what does matter is that you're slowly losing the ability to breathe air, and there's no water in sight...

2. Animal. Something bit you, and you're turning into an animal. Your bones lengthen or perhaps shrink, break, twist, and reform, your teeth lengthen or shorten, and above all, you feel your instincts being overridden. Your senses sharpen; you notice smells you never did before, your vision becomes more sensitive to movement. If you're a predator? Man, these people look mighty tasty. Prey? OHGOD, EVERYTHING IS TERRIFYING. Lizard? Enjoy your new inability to regulate body temperature. Bird? Have fun with the whole beak and hollowing bones. 8. Fusion/Hivemind You begin to fuse with the first person who tagged you – physically, mentally, or both. Soon, you can't tell who is who, which one of you is the real you, as your thoughts become one. Join in the fleshsong, mortal...

9. Inanimate Your body slowly petrifies and hardens, turning to stone, wood, glass, or something stranger still; or perhaps you liquefy, turning to some kind of liquid, or maybe you dissolve into the air itself.

[As Kara's hand reaches Ichimatsu's shoulder, it'll be immediately apparent that something is Very Wrong. The fabric of his hoodie is far too smooth, far too cool, and far too hard - and there's a sheen creeping over his skin suggesting the same of it. But by now Ichi can barely breathe, he certainly can't move... is this what rigor mortis feels like?

But what's about to be even more alarming is when Ichimatsu does flinch - and abruptly begins to shrink, as if an invisible compacter is pressing down around him on all sides. There's no blood, no gore - just a crumbling ball of purple and black and skintone until all that's left after a scant few seconds...

...is a purple hand mirror, much in the same style as the broken one. With a paw print design on the back.]

[It's horrifying. Or...it should be, with lots of blood and screaming and maybe passing out on his part. But the fact that it's so surreal has Karamatsu rooted to the spot, watching with wide eyes as Ichimatsu morphs right before him into...

...well, a hand mirror.

And that's that. It couldn't have taken more than a minute, and now his brother is gone, replaced by a mirror.

The broken mirror drops soundlessly from Karamatsu's hand, and the sound of it hitting the floor seems to finally snap him out of it.]

ICHIMATSUUU-!?!

[His eyes dart as he falls to his knees, swiftly snatching the mirror up and turning it over before he reminds himself that this was once his brother, and maybe he should be more careful handling it. But it...that's impossible! He just saw it happen and he still can't believe it. That couldn't have happened, it just couldn't have.]

I- Brother? Brother, can you hear me!?

[Ichimatsu feels like he must have passed out and woken back up, and that REALLY irritates him. You're not supposed to wake back up after dying! Much less to... a complete lack of sensation.

At first, he can't hear anything, see anything, feel... well, there's the vague impression of lying on something but it's... strange and distant. And the blackness is... it's like his eyes are closed, except at least he could still see patterns on the undersides of his eyelids. This? This is total darkness. He kinda likes it. Not being able to move or feel his body though, THAT is making him feel a little panicky.

And then something grabs him, he can feel something clamping around his... what the hell, he can't even tell. He can feel, kind of, but it's not right?? Like, body parts, what are those. A giant freaking hand just grabbed him and he can't even tell where.

Then, THEN his vision is abruptly back, and he's staring at Karamatsu's ENORMOUS panicked face and WHAT EVEN THE HELL.]

GYARGH!

[Oh. Well. His voice still works. It sounds weird and echoey and seems to resonate more in Karamatsu's head than anywhere else, but it's there. How's it feel to look into a mirror and see your brother's face, Kara?]

[And what is Karamatsu's immediate response to seeing his brother in the mirror instead of his own reflection?

Scream right along with him, of course.]

HAAAAGH!!

[It was a good thing he was on his knees already, meaning that the fall he takes when he collapses backwards isn't as far as it could have been. Somehow he misses sitting on shards of glass, one problem he wouldn't have been able to deal with right then. He almost drops the mirror too, but through sheer force of will and his hands gripping the handle like a vice, he manages to keep a grip on it.

His head is pounding from all the noise, especially given how it was loud, concentrated, and echoing in his ears like Ichimatsu had screamed right next to his head. Only once the ringing has stopped does he peer into the mirror again, one hand lifting so his fingertips can trace the edge of the glass.

It can't be, yet there he is, staring right back at him from the mirror. Did the sight he just witness cause him to finally go crazy?]

B...brother...?

[The image of Ichimatsu in the glass looks shocked and shaking as well, and he actually... flinches away slightly as Karamatsu touches the glass. Shit, he can feel that! He'd say it's like his face is being stroked, only it's... not. The sensation is coming from a surface that's too hard and flat for that.

With the return of his vision, he feels... slightly more human, actually? Maybe if being human still felt so insubstantial, and if the physical sensations he's getting still didn't match up to a human body at all. But now it feels like he can blink eyes, give a scowl that's rather ineffective through the panic, bite down way too hard on a lip.]

S-Shittymatsu, what the hell?? You're fucking huge!

And you're-! ...a lot...smaller, suddenly.

[If he hadn't just seen it for himself, he would have said that Ichimatsu got trapped in a mirror somehow, as opposed to actually turning into one.]

Are you feeling alright? Does anything hurt?

[He's talking to him and seems okay physically, but that's not really a good gauge of how he is. Being an actual mirror all of a sudden? Definitely not okay.]

[No, no, nononononono. He can't deal with this. Something Weird is going on, and that's Jyushimatsu's specialty, not his!

...well okay, they're ALL pretty used to weird shit, but relatively speaking!

In any case, Karamatsu being... Karamatsu at him isn't helping, nor is the fact that he can't really see anything other than his brother's face. His gaze averts, appears to be glancing everywhere else, hands in his hair.]

What're you... augh... you're holding me, aren't you!? Let go, let go, I can't move...

[He really can't, but he can tell Kara's grip is firm but not that restraining. He can't even try to move, like he's just a toy in his brother's hands.

...A... wait. His image suddenly goes rigid, looking straight back up at Karamatsu's face with wide eyes.]

...Karamatsu.

[His throat should be dry, but his throat needs to exist first to do that.]

What... am I?

...you don't know?

[That seems to come as a surprise to Karamatsu, like his brother couldn't possibly not know what he just became. He isn't about to let him go though, and if anything he brings the mirror a bit closer, as if doing so will allow him to finally see his own reflection. But it's no good, it's still Ichimatsu, and there's something...very surreal about it that makes Karamatsu uncomfortable in a way he can't place.]

You're a mirror. I'm holding you up to my face right now, see?

You're too close!!

[Honestly the most surreal thing is how Ichimatsu is upset enough to be yelling so much. He wants to punch Kara right in his stupid, too-big face, he really does, but even as his reflection goes through the motion, nothing happens. Just the image of his arm swiping past, as if the punch was thrown to the side of the mirror's surface. His image pulls back, sinks to the ground, wraps its arm around its knees.]

Tch.

[He didn't ask for this HE DOESN'T WANT THIS. This isn't what breaking your brother's dumb things is supposed to do!! Also, it's not funny. They might have six same faces, but really, isn't this a little too literal??]

So this is hell, then... ah, I really must have died.

[Now it's Karamatsu's turn to flinch when Ichimatsu raises his voice, lowering the mirror a little as he sits up from where he'd fallen back in his surprise a moment ago. Prominent brows furrow, and Ichimatsu will feel the way his grip on the mirror's handle tightens.]

You shouldn't talk like that. You haven't died, you're just...not yourself.

[Because that's not obvious.]

I'm going to help you, Ichimatsu. We'll figure out how to fix this.

[It's a good thing Karamatsu's used to Ichi's completely dead looks, because he's getting one of the deadest right now. Honestly? He might as WELL be dead. Why in the world shouldn't he give up now, especially with Kara pledging to help like that? Ugh.

...But there must be some shred of desire to go back to life in him, because he goes to grunt a noncommittal response and another thought tumbles out instead.]

Eh... where'd you find that old mirror, anyway...

Ah, well...there was a traveling market in town a few weeks ago. They were selling rare antiques! I wasn't going to buy anything, but then that mirror...it just stood out to me!

[A lot of Karamatsu's concern in his tone is replaced by his usual brand of painful monologue as he waxes poetic about this mirror he bought, which was very likely just a cheap thing that someone fooled him into thinking was worth more than it was.]

The man I bought it from told me that its reflection would never fail to show my true, perfect image~

If it didn't show a pile of shit, you got ripped off.

[Is that necessary, Ichi? Is it rea - okay yeah, yeah it probably is.]

Hey, you can see me, right?

[Because for the love of the few things in this world that aren't garbage, PLEASE tell him he doesn't look like Karamatsu's reflection from the outside.]

[Either Karamatsu didn't catch Ichimatsu's meaning, or he ignored it, because he doesn't comment on it.]

See you? Of course I can see you.

[How else would he have known it was Ichimatsu in there? Through voice, maybe, but it's still sounding a bit weird and echoey in his head right now.]

Ah, so I don't look like you.

[Small comfort, considering. His image starts to look even further withdrawn, reaching up to bury hands in his messy hair and resting his forehead against his knees.

He knows he's doing that, or at least giving off the impression of it, but he can't feel it and it's driving him nuts. He can't feel his hair in his fingers, can't pull on it until it hurts, the comfort of curling into a ball is just gone.]

No, it's no use, just smash me now and get it over with. I was already worthless garbage; now I'm literally garbage. Tell the others I died painfully...

[He knows full well Kara won't do it, though. He's going to have to suffer being carried around like... like a thing, isn't he? Ah, well, his previous existence wasn't that great either... but he won't even be able to pet cats like this!! It's horrible!!]

[While Ichimatsu is talking, Karamatsu seems intent to figure out if he can use this mirror to actually look at his own reflection. So far, all he can see is the image of his brother, curled up in a ball in what might as well be a pitch black room. He turns it this way and that, passing it from one hand to the other, even holding it up at different angles with his lips pursed and his other hand resting against his chin. He's so caught up in this that he doesn't catch Ichimatsu asking to be smashed, not like he would have done it anyway, it's true.

It's actually a little disappointing, given the fact that Ichi destroyed his only good mirror.]

Ah...it's no use. You do not function like a true mirror.

[Kara sighs, slumping back and moving to fold his legs beneath himself, propping his forearm up on one knee.]

...though I suppose it could work, if you could do an impression of me.

[...an impression. Of Karamatsu. Ichimatsu feels something akin to a shiver run through him - no, nope, never again.]

A-an... impression...

[He gets the feeling that if he still had a stomach, he'd feel sick to it. Even Karamatsu is only concerned about whether he can be a proper mirror, now? He really is trash!]

Mm! But, ah...I suppose that doesn't matter right now anyway, does it?

[Karamatsu looks back up into the mirror, his enlarged face twisted with sympathy for his now-trapped brother.]

You were not meant to be a mirror, and seeing you like this...there has to be a way to reverse it!

Maybe I could do an impression of your shitty side. "Ah, burazas, look at how shitty and annoying I am."

[It's a very flat, monotone, halfhearted mock, and Ichimatsu gives an equally deadpan, not-even-trying Karamatsu style hairflip as he speaks.

...But the scary part is that, when he does it, his image DOES shift. For a moment, despite his expression not changing, he DOES look like Karamatsu's reflection. And he doesn't seem to notice, returning to his usual self afterwards.

After all, what mirror has an identity of its own?]

Tch, it's probably useless. No way you can find that merchant again, right?

[...hold that thought.]

I-Ichimatsu?! You-!! How did you do that??

[Because unless he's finally snapped, he absolutely saw himself just now, if for but a brief moment as Ichimatsu did that half-hearted impression of him.]

Eh? Do what? That shitty impression?

[The hell, is Karamatsu trying to patronize him now? As if his impressions aren't even worse! Does he really have to look that shocked?? Just shut up and start looking for a solution already!]

[He holds the mirror at arm's length, as if this will make it easier for him to try and explain himself.]

You looked just like me, for a moment! As in, literally my face!

[Seriously? Is he joking?? Is he fucking with him?? But no, this is Karamatsu after all, and everything about his expression is dead serious. Not to mention that Ichimatsu can't think of a single scenario in which his brother would look this upset to see his own face...]

...I changed into you? I really...

[Nope, nope, nonononononononono he can't deal with this. He can't. He's a fucking mirror and he's already turning into reflections instead of himself and what, was his entire life already being a giant identity crisis really not enough??

Welcome to mirror!Ichi bluescreening, Karamatsu. By which we mean he withdraws so hard that the image in the mirror blanks out entirely... then begins reflecting just like any other perfectly ordinary mirror in the entire world.

Be careful what you wish for, huh?]

...Eh?

[And just like that...his brother is gone.

Karamatsu blinks, gripping the mirror tighter, bringing the glass closer to his face. His reflection.]

Eh? ...I..Ichimatsu?

[Silence. It's...just his own reflection, truly looking back at him and responding just as any old mirror might. His grip gets even tighter in an effort to keep his hands from shaking.]

A-are you still mimicking me? Because it...it's very good, but you can stop...

....Brother?

[Silence. Absolute silence. Ichimatsu was already a bit too good at withdrawing and quietly having panic attacks on his own, but now that he's an inanimate object, it's maybe a little too easy.

...On the other hand, with Karamatsu gripping his mirror form and simply trying so hard, that mental connection that Ichimatsu had been speaking through hasn't quite closed entirely. As if Kara managed to get just one toe in the door before it slammed completely shut. If he focuses, he might feel a trickle of that wave of anguish and panic coming from Ichi...]
