Something's gone wrong. Maybe it was a little parasite, wiggling under your skin. Maybe something bit you that one night in the woods. Maybe someone decided they didn't like you and placed a curse on you, or maybe the local psychotic AI decided she liked you and filled you full of nanites. In any case, you're changing, body and soul. There's no way to stop it. No way to reverse it. And above all, it's the most painful thing you've ever experienced...

HOW IT WORKS:
- Tag the meme, leaving your character name, fandom, and any preferences in the subject line
- Other character tags you
- You tag back, and use the random number generator to select from the following options. Or don't, and do whatever strikes your fancy. If you roll something your character already is, either roll again, go for human, or pick something that otherwise suits your fancy.
- Other character reacts, or is free to also roll on the table
- Play out the results.
- Have fun, but respect the preferences of others.

1. Water-dwelling. You're growing gills, or your skin is turning translucent, or you're sprouting fins, or maybe you're outright turning into some form of sea life. It doesn't matter what you're turning into – what does matter is that you're slowly losing the ability to breathe air, and there's no water in sight...

2. Animal. Something bit you, and you're turning into an animal. Your bones lengthen or perhaps shrink, break, twist, and reform, your teeth lengthen or shorten, and above all, you feel your instincts being overridden. Your senses sharpen; you notice smells you never did before, your vision becomes more sensitive to movement. If you're a predator? Man, these people look mighty tasty. Prey? OHGOD, EVERYTHING IS TERRIFYING. Lizard? Enjoy your new inability to regulate body temperature. Bird? Have fun with the whole beak and hollowing bones. And don't even get us started on insects and arachnids...

3. Parasitic Something's inside you, and it's changing you from within, chewing up your insides and altering your thoughts. You're not sure how much longer you're going to be you, and when the parasite's going to take over completely...

4. Demonic You've been meddling with dark powers beyond the ken of mortal man, and it seems you've accidentally sold your soul. Will you be the traditional kind of demon, horns and hooves, or something far more terrifying and ineffable?

5. Undead: No doubt about it, you're dying, but as you are, something's been altered in you. Maybe you're becoming a vampire – and not the fun kind, either, we're talking ugly, ravenous, and mad. Maybe you're a zombie, or a ghoul, and human flesh looks mighty tasty. Or maybe you're just turning into a ghost bent on vengeance. In any case, death is never fun.

6. Cybernetic Get captured by the Borg? Strapped to an operating table? Injected with nanites? Whatever happened to you, you're slowly turning into something half man, half machine, your squishy bits being replaced by mechanical components.

7. Lovecraftian You've heard their song, the terrors from beyond the stars, and even now they sing in your blood as your flesh transmutes into something ineffable and unknowable. You revel in the pain you feel even as you seek to spread it, to herald the end of all things... or maybe worse, you're aware of the transition as your mind becomes not your own.

8. Fusion/Hivemind You begin to fuse with the first person who tagged you – physically, mentally, or both. Soon, you can't tell who is who, which one of you is the real you, as your thoughts become one. Join in the fleshsong, mortal...

9. Inanimate Your body slowly petrifies and hardens, turning to stone, wood, glass, or something stranger still; or perhaps you liquefy, turning to some kind of liquid, or maybe you dissolve into the air itself.

10. Wildcard / pick your own Pick whatever you like, combine a few options, or make up your own.

[That scream DOES sound louder and sharper than it should, and Ichimatsu visibly flinches, his expression going sour and dark.]

Eeeeeeeeeeeeh? You wanna find out? Come closer...

[ICHI NO. You can't mer-curse your ticket to more comfortable accommodations! And out of Karamatsu's general vicinity. His tail thrashes a bit though - probably smacking Kara in the face in the process - and he almost looks like he's ready to lunge. He might. Need to be stopped. He's certainly not about to explain.]

[Kara's head whips to one side as Ichi's tail gives him a good slap. It also puts his ear to the surface, letting him hear the tail end of what Ichimatsu said to Choromatsu just then and no he isn't about that life today-]

Ichimaaaaatsu-!

[BLURBLBLBBLHHH comes Karamatsu's voice from below the surface as he reaches his arms out and throws them around Ichimatsu's torso in an attempt to hold him back, lest he try to grab Choro and pull him forwards. The last thing they need is three brothers suffering from this affliction; they can barely both fit as it is!]

[Oh you bet your ass Choromatsu has just butt-scooted as far away from the tub as possible. He's not sure through the sounds of the water, but wasn't that Karamatsu currently holding Ichimatsu back? And were those scales? HE HAS SO MANY QUESTIONS.

Like why are Ichimatsu and Karamatsu alone in a bathtub together NOT THE MAIN ISSUE HERE, BRAIN]

Wh...what happened? Why do you have a fish tail? Is that Karamatsu with you? What's with his arms?! What's going on here?!

[A pause.]

Please don't say it's Dekapon. That's so cliche at this point.

[Great, so now Kara is HUGGING him, and he's so, so done with this. There's a vague attempt to wriggle out of his grip, but Karamatsu is... quite a bit stronger than he looks, and Ichimatsu was never one for much effort.]

Hey, don't...! Tch!

[Normally he'd hold Kara's head under the water but... THAT DOESN'T REALLY WORK ANYMORE DOES IT.]

No, it was bad sushi... get off, Shittymatsu!

[Acting mostly on instinct, Ichimatsu gives as big a kick with his tail as he can muster in the small space, which is just enough to loosen Karamatsu's grip. Twisting out of it, there's a second kick and a shove, and oops there goes Kara in all his glittery scaled glory over the side of the tub and onto the floor.

Also, sorry for probably drenching everything in the room, including you, Choro.]

[Karamatsu's grip had been firm because he felt it necessary to make sure his brother didn't spread this affliction any farther than it had already gone. What did Choromatsu ever do to you, really!? More surprising than his ability to hold Ichi in place, though, is the sudden kick to his person that would have knocked all the air out of his lungs if he needed to breathe air any longer. It instead manages to stun him, making it all the easier for Ichimatsu to upend his brother right out of the tub and onto the bathroom floor.

He falls facefirst, sliding for a few feet before he comes to a stop on the tile in front of Choromatsu, the head and shoulders of Karamatsu with a huge fishtail where his legs should be. The merman lays there in a puddle for a long moment before he suddenly rolls over, his body convulsing like he'd been electrocuted.]

Hhhgk-! I-c-cchiii-maaatsss-!!

[He thrashes helplessly on the floor, his arms trembling as he reaches up toward the edge of the tub...but his fingertips are several feet away, nowhere near close enough to pull himself back up into it. His other hand is gripping at his neck, trying to hold his gills closed so they won't suck in air and make his suffocation even worse.]

[And remember, if you are within 10 feet of the strange fish/Matsuno hybrids, you WILL get wet.

It's an awful lot for Choromatsu to process at once. Now that he can see Karamatsu in all his, uh, fishy glory, the word "mermaid" finally connects in his brain properly. Or merMAN, he guesses. The point, of course, is that his brothers were not mermen when they got out of bed this morning. Obviously.

...actually, the more important thing is that Karamatsu is clearly choking to death, and not even King Painful himself deserves a fate like that. Choromatsu yelps and does his best to assist his older brother back into the bath. Not the easiest thing in the world, mind. Doesn't help he's kinda slippery. Also, the whole "getting close to Ichimatsu" thing.]

I'm... hngg... pretty sure even normal bad sushi doesn't cause something like this... guh...

[Man, where's Jyushimatsu when you need him. Or maybe Totoko-chan might know a thing or two about fish hauling. ...or maybe he could just see Totoko-chan and try to forget all this happening BAD CHOROMATSU NO BISCUIT.

He finally manages to at least awkwardly dunk Karamatsu's head in the water. Uh. Progress, right?]

[Luckily, Karamatsu succeeded in ruining the whole moment, and Ichimatsu would rather just kind of sulk than actually try to bite anyone else right now. Also, they DO need Choromatsu's help.

All that splashing around sure drained the tub of a bunch of its water though, so more of Ichi is visible now, even as he lies there blowing bubbles in the water.]

No shit. Ah, Choromatsu, can you get us to the river or something?

[Cause he'll tolerate you cramming Karamatsu's head awkwardly into the water, sure. But try to put much more of him back in the tub and lol no, he'll dump him right back out again. That was WAY too uncomfortable.]

[Well. Karamatsu isn't dying anymore, crisis averted, nobody cares. His positioning now is decidedly more awkward than it was before, slumped over the edge of the tub with his head upside down in the water as he gasps, bubbles rising to the surface all around his head as the air he sucked in is replaced with water. So that's two near-death experiences he's had today, and he would much rather not try for a third.

He's also being blessedly quiet for once, both trying to catch a breath and inaudible to Choromatsu as long as he's still under the water like this. But at least Ichimatsu has room to swim now...sortof.]

[Phew. No need to have Karamatsu's death on his head. Today, anyway.]

That's a lot easier said than done, isn't it? I mean, just getting you guys over there without you two choking to death's gonna be hard enough, let alone doing so in a way nobody notices.

[Ugh, why does it have to be him to figure this stuff out? And he KNOWS it's going to be him. Osomatsu will probably just crack fish jokes all day, Todomatsu would probably try to disassociate himself from the whole situation, and Jyushimatsu... well, you don't go to Jyushimatsu for clever plans that involve anything more in-depth than either chucking something, wrestling something, or hitting it with a bat. Although he might be useful for extra labor.]

Maybe if we found some way to do a sort of "reverse" scuba helmet?

[Ichimatsu taps a fist into his palm, as if just coming up with an amazing idea.]

We'd have him throw Karamatsu first, so we know if his aim is right.

[Karamatsu pushes his hands against the bottom of the tub, turning his head to the side long enough to splutter-]

Why me?!

[YOU STARTED THIS ICHIMATSU DON'T YOU EVEN.]

I dunno, you guys seem to be kinda differently shaped like this. The aerodynamics could be off. Anyway, flying fishmen are probably going to be noticed as much as regular fishmen.

[...and no vocalized concern for the proposal that Karamatsu could get hurt. Okay then.]

[Look, those scales are REALLY annoying to look at, okay?? He's allowed to be a little cranky right now! Even if the whole situation is indeed ENTIRELY HIS FAULT...]

Oh, that's true...

[It hadn't even occurred to him, honestly. Maybe he's a bit too used to all six of them being so alike? Well, it's not like they're all EXACTLY the same, but the difference between his and Karamatsu's weight and body shape is certainly much more drastic now.

...Ichimatsu isn't sure whether he likes that idea or not.]

[There's a splash as Karamatsu's head falls beneath the water again, gills flaring as he takes a few deep breaths before resurfacing again so he can speak.]

Whatever we do, we need to- [Gasp.] -do it quickly!

[Ichimatsu pretty much has the whole tub to himself now, but the amount of water in it is abysmal, given the fact that a lot has been splashed out by now.

Also, the state of it is...gross. It's just really gross and Karamatsu wouldn't even be in it if he didn't have no other choice.]

[Choromatsu dashes out and towards the kitchen, searching around.]

[It's SUPER gross. There's all this gooey, drippy discarded, disintegrating skin in the water, making what remains steadily more and more like a gross sludge. Several pieces are visibly hanging off Ichi's tail, giving something of an impression of a swamp monster rather than a merman.

He lifts the end of the tail and idly slaps it back down into the water a few times, slopping the goop here and there for emphasis.

That gross water IS getting harder to breathe, though, so he also reaches for the faucet and turns it on again, letting what was splashed out of the tub start to refill.

Honestly, he's glad Choromatsu understands enough to want to move them in secret. If anyone other than his brothers saw him like this, Ichimatsu would probably just die.

Karamatsu being his only companion in this... no, no, that won't do, though. He'll have to bite someone else eventually too. Maybe Jyushi, if he wanted. Ah, could he get Totoko-chan somehow, maybe? She's practically a fish already anyway, right? And then she'd be stuck with them for sure...

...Don't look now, Kara, but he's got that look he gets when he's spacing out thinking of unsettling, unsavory plots.]

[The fresh water helps, but only so much. Is it just him, or is Ichimatsu...slimier than he is? They do seem to be different in both shape, color, and pattern as far as their new fish bodies go, but he doesn't know enough about merpeople to say whether they're different species or not. ...if that's even how it works.

With a grimace, Karamatsu pulls himself slowly along the edge of the tub to at least try and get closer to the faucet, turning his head when Ichi slaps his tail against the water. It also results in him catching that look when he catches Ichi's eye.]

...Brother, you understand that we have to remain isolated until this is resolved, right? For the sake of our brothers- no, the sake of everyone in Tokyo! We cannot allow this epidemic to spread!

[Meaning, no more biting.]

[At some point, Choromatsu will appreciate the irony of a situation where putting a plastic bag over somebody's head HELPS them to breathe. in the meantime, however, he double-checks for holes before looking for something to tie the bags tightly on with. Though not too tightly. Of course.

He remains oblivious to the plotting above.]

Ah... and if we can't go back?

[They ALL know that all six of them tend to endure everything together, at the very least. If one or two of them is changing this much, how long until they all end up this way? A schism like this puts their balance as sextuplets in danger, and it's never lasted before.

So why would it now? Surely if the two of them can't go back to being human, there's only one other option for the remaining four.

[Karamatsu doesn't like thinking in ultimatums and absolutes. There's a possibility that this will wear off, just as possible as it is that it might...last forever.
